In Lori region, the number of criminal cases sent to court was increased by 108%, and the damage caused to the state by corruption cases by 42%

According to the results of the Prosecutor's Office of Lori region during the 1st half of 2020, under the procedural supervision of prosecutors of the Prosecutor's Office of Lori region 33 criminal cases (regarding the corruption cases) were initiated.

 

From these corruption cases, 5 were registered in the field of education, 14 - in local self-government bodies, 4 - in the field of road construction, 1 - in the banking sector, 1 - in the field of healthcare, 2 - in the fields of state and medical and social welfare services, 2 – by the fact of corruption criminal manifestations committed in state NGOs, and 4 relate to the commission of crimes by law enforcement agencies.

 

For the first 6 months of 2020 by the criminal cases under investigation, criminal prosecution was initiated against 42 people. During this period, 3 criminal cases against 4 people were sent to the court with an indictment.

 

By the criminal cases initiated regarding corruption crimes, was found out material damage in the amount of 260.905.234 AMD, which is by 42% more than compared with the previous year (183.499.500 AMD). From the damage 23.588.605 AMD were restored, and the corresponding criminal procedural mechanism was applied for restoring the rest of damage.

 

For 6 months of 2020 within the framework of materials prepared on corruption crimes and initiated criminal cases with a view to eliminate the established violations of state interests, 4 petitions were presented regarding various problems.

 

The Prosecutor's Office of the region has also carried out large-scale activities in the field of protection of state interests. 34 studies are being or have been carried out within the framework of this function. As a result of these studies, 6 criminal cases were initiated.

 

Besides, within the framework of protection of state interests within one case, a claim presented by the Prosecutor's Office of Lori region in the amount of 148.595.000 AMD was upheld.

 

The Prosecutor's Office of Lori region and other criminal prosecution bodies registered serious results in the field of completing criminal cases with the outcome of being sent to court. In particular, if for the 1st half of 2019, 75 criminal cases against 110 people were sent to the court, then during the specified period of 2020, 156 criminal cases were sent to the court (by 108% more) regarding 168 people (by 52% more).
