Message of the RA Prosecutor General A. Davtyan on the occasion of the International Day of the Fight against Corruption

December 09, 2020

Dear Compatriots!

Today is December 09th, the International Day of the Fight against Corruption. The advice of this day is the universal consolidation of the need to recognize corruption as one of the greatest obstacles to the development of societies, states and to systematically and irreconcilably fight this common evil.

The path to building a legal, social, democratic state is, in any case, paved with the expression of an unquestionable will to a real, institutional fight against corruption, a common intolerance of society towards corruption and full cooperation of the state and society in this matter.

However, a real and consistent anti-corruption fight is usually waged with great difficulty in all countries, because it constantly faces serious resistance to corruption.

Sometimes all possible resources are invested to interrupt the reform process in order to thereby protect illegal property acquired as a result of corruption, to avoid inevitable criminal liability with the task of devaluing this process at any cost, distorting its meaning and goals, provoking public distrust toward the state, especially toward the law enforcement system.

The RA Prosecutor's Office sees itself as the locomotive of the criminal-legal fight against corruption and is determined to unconditionally fulfill its mission within the framework of anti-corruption reforms.

The processes that are happening now in the republic, the chaotic war and its results not only will not let us break this resistance, return the national capital stolen by corruption schemes, hold liable the people involved in corruption regardless of the period of their position, social or official position, but they will also be more determined to wage a more active anti-corruption fight as a means of strengthening our statehood, restoring social justice in the country and creating opportunities for the direction of state resources to implement the needed security programs. For these purposes, the Prosecutor's Office will use all the levers assigned to by law.

Therefore, I call on our compatriots in the name of realizing the dream of our homeland, in the name of confirming our pride as a state owner to more actively participate in the fight against corruption, support the process of introducing preventive and supervisory and institutional mechanisms, the efforts of law enforcement agencies aimed at identifying corrupt crimes.
