159 criminal cases have been initiated in the result of complaints sent to the Prosecutor’s Office

The outcomes of the applications, complaints addressed to the RA Prosecutor's Office during 2020 have been summed up at the General Prosecutor's Office. The RA Prosecutor's Office received 10435 complaints from citizens in 2020, which is 1427 less than in 2019. 1011 complaints were taken under proceedings, in the result of which 159 criminal cases were initiated. The Prosecutor's Office provided 2862 necessary legal clarifications regarding the submitted complaints.

 

5 reports have been received on crimes related to the 44-day war since September 27, 2020. Relatives of the dead military servicemen, out of which 3 have been prosecuted and the other 2 are still being under examination.

 

17 applications have been received by the relatives of the military servicemen killed, not found and captured in the war. The applications have been sent to the pre-trial bodies conducting war-related cases to be inspected and examined.

 

The vast majority of complaints received in 2020, i.e. 3045 complaints, are on crimes against property and economic activity.

 

There are more than 1500 applications and reports of corruption-related crimes against humanity.

 

Besides the complaints, citizens inform about their concerns and questions visiting directly to the Prosecutor's Office. 1375 receptions were organized in the Prosecutor's Office in 2020.

 

28 receptions were organized with the Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan, 10 receptions with the Deputy Prosecutors General and senior prosecutors of the RA Prosecutor General's Office, 155 receptions with the prosecutors of the departments, 264 receptions with the prosecutors of Yerevan and administrative district and 692 receptions with the prosecutors of the prosecutor offices of regions.

 

196 visits were organized at the Military Prosecutor's Office, 33 receptions at the Division of Reception of Citizens and Letters Review of the RA Prosecutor's Office.

 

Artur Baghdasaryan, Adviser to the RA Prosecutor General and Coordinator of Reception and Complaints issues, states that in the result of the receptions organized in the Prosecutor's Office, proceedings were initiated on the basis of new circumstances.

 

In particular, on the basis of the report submitted by a  citizen, the RA Police prepared materials, but the body conducting the proceedings, decided to refuse initiating a criminal case. In this regard, a complaint was received from the citizen, and the latter was received by Artur Baghdasaryan, Advisor to the RA Prosecutor General. In the result of checking the legality of that decision in the RA Prosecutor's Office, the case materials were studied, the results of the reception were taken into account, a proceeding was initiated on the basis of a new circumstance and the case was sent to the RA Investigative Committee with an instruction to conduct a preliminary investigation.
