84 accused, 8 convicted for transportation and turnover of weapons from Artsakh to Armenia after the war of 2020: summary

191 criminal cases were initiated under Article 235, 238 of the RA Criminal Code on for illegal transportation of weapons and firearms, explosives and devices from the Republic of Artsakh during military actions and after ceasefire.

 

Materials of cases come to prove that weapons and firearms foreseen for actions against the enemy in general were obtained from different defense regions of the Republic of Artsakh. They were transferred to the Republic of Armenia by hiding them in the vehicles, in some cases the criminal acts were committed by a group of people with prior agreement of several people.

 

In the result of examinations by the law enforcement bodies in the control points located on the road Stepanakert-Goris after the war and immediately after it, and mainly due to operative and investigative measures, different kinds of firearms, rifles, machine guns, sharp knives, grenade launchers, bullets, explosives and many other items were found and confiscated.

 

Different cases were joined, 82 criminal cases are in the phase of preliminary investigation and operative and investigative measures are undertaken to find out the circumstances of transportation to the RA, the scope of people involved in the criminal act, as well as for discovering other illegal weapons and firearms.

 

84 people were charged with various parts of the above-mentioned articles of the RA Criminal Code on the ground of evidence obtained in criminal cases related to the illegal acquisition of ammunition, explosives or devices, theft, transportation to the Republic of Armenia. Detention was chosen as a preventive measure against 4 people.

 

25 criminal cases of this nature against 28 people were sent to the court with bill of indictment, and on 6 cases regarding 8 people led to a conviction.

 

Imprisonment was chosen as a punishment against 7 of them.

 

The court examinations of 18 criminal cases on 19 people are underway.
