Murders, attempted murders and intentional bodily harm cases were dropped significantly in the first quarter of 2022

April 29, 2022

In the first quarter of 2022, compared to the same period of the previous year, the Republic of Armenia registered a significant improvement in the dynamics of crime in a number of key areas declared as priorities in recent years.

In particular, according to the data received from the Information Center of the RA Police, compared with the first half of 2021 the number of cases of crimes of average gravity was decreased by 13.1%, cases of especially grave crimes - by 19.2% (the dynamics of cases of grave crimes did not change significantly). At the same time, the detection rate for moderate crimes in 2021 was 47.9%, and for especially serious crimes - 54.3%.

It is especially important that the decrease of grave crimes was due to a decrease in the number of murders and attempted murders. If in the first quarter of 2021, 18 murders were registered in the republic, then in 2022 - 10 cases. That is, the number of murders was decreased by 44.4%. In 2022, 8 cases of attempted murders were registered.

At the same time, the number of cases of intentional infliction of harm to health, especially serious ones, has decreased.

From the point of view of assessing the state of crime in the country, the tendency of the decrease in these types of crimes was largely due to the implementation of large-scale operational and search activities, coordinated by law enforcement agencies, to identify illegally stored weapons and ammunition.

And the subdivisions of the RA Prosecutor's Office were instructed by the RA Prosecutor General to give instructions to the operational-search bodies and bodies of preliminary investigation, by indicating specific actions. As a result, at the beginning of 2022 the cases of especially grave and grave crimes were revealed and prevented in Yerevan, Lori region.
