Recently the cases of appropriation using the announcements posted on different Marketplaces have drastically increased. This is shown by the study of the reports received by the Prosecutor General’s Office regarding the cases of crimes against property recorded during 2022.

 

The persons committing the alleged crime contacted the individuals selling different items in different sale and purchase platforms (for example List.sm) through WhatsApp or other uncontrolled means of communication and required the data of the credit cards for the purpose of electronically paying for the items bought from those platforms, after which they appropriated the money from those credit cards.

 

145 cases of crimes were committed in the abovementioned manner during the 1st semester of 2022.

 

134 cases of criminal actions were completed.

 

11 cases of criminal actions were not completed due to the fact that there was no money on the credit cards.

 

From the abovementioned cases:

 

• in 82 cases decisions on initiating a criminal case was rendered;
• in 63 cases decisions on rejecting the initiation of the criminal case was rendered
• The total damage amounted to AMD 18 147 818.
