In the evening of 13 of November 2020, 27-year old Garnik Petrosyan’s body was discovered.

 

Judicial and medical expertise was appointed and a criminal case was initiated under Article 110, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code at the Investigative Division of Ajapnyak and Davtashen administrative districts.

 

In the course of the investigation it turned out that after the publication of the tripartite statement, when a group of people broke into the building of Government and National Assembly and other state institutions with using violence, destroying property, resisting with arms the authority representatives, on 10 November 2020 G. Petrosyan was arrested for commitments according to Article 225, Part 1, 2 and 4 of the RA Criminal Code, 301.1 Article, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code and was charged on 13 November. And as far as 72 hours of arrest were over he was left free. The same day a motion was made to the Court of General Jurisdiction of Yerevan City to use detention against G. Petrosyan.

 

In social media there was information that he had not committed suicide, but he was killed by means of throwing him from the Kievyan Bridge.

 

In order to avoid various possible speculations, we consider it necessary to inform that according to the record of the interrogation of the accused, the interrogation finished on November 13 at 21.00 o’clock, and according to the information obtained in the case, the incident took place at 22.04 o’clock.

 

There is an eyewitness, who witnesses that on November 13, at around 22:00, while walking across Kievyan Bridge, he/she noticed in the middle of the bridge how the mentioned person climbed the metal barrier of the bridge. He would have managed to call 911 to avoid possible bad consequences, he saw that he was no longer there. In his/her testimony, the eyewitness stated that the person was alone; there was no other person along the entire section of the bridge. The two passers-by mentioned by the eyewitness gave almost identical testimonies.

 

In addition, the video recordings of the video cameras installed at the intersection of Halabyan Street and Kievyan Bridge as of the day of the incident were examined. In the result, it turned out that on November 13, 2020 G. Petrosyan went to the Kievyan bridge alone, climbed the barrier alone and threw himself.

 

In the scope of the above-mentioned case being investigated by the RA NSS Investigation Department, G. Petrosyan testifies in the presence of his lawyer during the interrogation that he committed an attempt of suicide in 2010 by taking pills, before that until 2019 he was registered in the relevant health center, during that time he received appropriate pills, the taking of which was stopped voluntarily, without a doctor's instruction since January 2019.

 

The preliminary investigation of the criminal case is underway. The circumstances of the incident, the reasons of G. Petrosyan’s suicide were instructed to the police, necessary investigative, judicial, operative-investigative measures are being carried out under proper prosecutorial supervision.

 

All the publications regarding the case revealed in the framework of the media monitoring carried out by the RA Prosecutor's Office are sent to the body conducting the proceedings in order to check the circumstances mentioned in them and make them subject of investigation.
