November 07, 2018

On November 7, a meeting has been held at the RA Prosecutor General’s Office with a delegation headed by the UN Special Rapporteur on the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association Clément  Voule. To assess the state of application of the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association, and within the framework of the report to be presented at the 41st session of the HRC in 2019, the Deputies of the Prosecutor General Hayk Aslanyan and David Melkonyan have received the UN Special Rapporteur,  who has visited the Republic of Armenia.

The Deputies of the RA Prosecutor General at the request of the UN Special Rapporteur touched upon the issue of the process of investigation of criminal cases over the past few years regarding the violations of the rights to freedom of peaceful assembly and of association.

It has been noted that separate cases concerning individuals have been sent to  court and  there are already sentences that has come  into legal force.

The Special Rapporteur has considered as an important indicator the observation that recently the confidence of citizens towards the law enforcement bodies  has  significantly  increased, which motivates them for cooperation regarding the disclosure of crimes.
