RA Prosecutor General received the Director of Human Rights of the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe

RA Prosecutor General Artur Davtyan received the Director of Human Rights of the Directorate General Human Rights and Rule of Law of the Council of Europe Christos Giakoumopoulos.
RA Prosecutor General noting the importance of the program "Strengthening the implementation of European human rights standards in the Armed Forces of Armenia", mentioned that the RA Prosecutor’s Office being the guarantor of the implementation of criminal policy, welcomes and is ready to support all the programs, that are aimed at the unconditional protection of human rights both in the armed forces and civil society.
“The Armed Forces of Armenia ensure the safety, security and the inviolability of borders of our country, hence the support for more effective protection of human rights, the advancement of the situation in the sphere of human rights in the Armed Forces of Armenia, improvement of the of RA legislation, concerning the human rights in the Armed Forces, the raising awareness of the military, the prevention of the violation of human rights, as well as the fair conduct of their investigation are priorities for us. The involvement of international organizations in the process helps to identify problems and shortcomings”, said the RA Prosecutor General.
Christos Giakoumopoulos noted the high level of cooperation with the RA Prosecutor’s Office, expressing confidence that it will contribute to the implementation of this program.
During the meeting issues concerning the support of the protection of human rights, the application of the European standards, the prevention, detection and implementation of fair investigation of human rights violations and especially ill-treatment were discussed. An agreement was reached on the development of effective human rights protection mechanisms in the Armed Forces within the framework of the implementation of the program.
