November 03, 2020
Earlier it was reported that by the soldiers of the Defense Army of the Republic of Artsakh on 01.11.2020 was found out Youssef El Abed Al Haji / born in 1988, a resident of the village Ziyadia/ the 2 citizen of the Syrian Arab Republic, participating in the hostilities unleashed against the Republic of Artsakh. The latter was detained on suspicion of committing crimes under Art. 389, Point 1 of Part 1 of Art. 390, Point 1 and Point 1 of Part 3 of Art. 390 and Part 3 of Art. 395 of the RA Criminal Code.
In the course of the preliminary investigation of the relevant criminal case, new factual data were obtained on the presence of mercenaries recruited from other countries, particularly from Syria, as members in the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, and their direct involvement in the hostilities.
In particular, according to the testimony of Youssef El Abed Al Haji, a man named Abu Ahmad offered him in his house to go to Azerbaijan in exchange for money to participate in a three-month military exercises, on the condition of being paid $ 2.000 each month. The recruitment was carried out from Sararfin, Sahamn, Al Ziyadia, other settlements of Syria, the recruiters were specially warned not to take an ID, mobile phone.
They were taken to the Bab al-Salam border checkpoint of Syria, which, according to the testimony of Syrian mercenary, is under the control of Abu Hamsha and their militants. From hundreds of people recruited from different parts of Syria by Abu Hamsha's brother, Saif, 500 people between the ages of 20 and 40 were recruited, who were warned in advance that after leaving for Azernaijan no one else would be allowed to return until the end of the term.
Then these 500 people without any obstacles, passed the mentioned border checkpoint located in Syria–Turkey border without any verification of identification documents by the Turkish border guards, got on the buses and escorted by Turkish soldiers headed to one of the Turkish civil airports, and from there by plane with Turkish banner transferred to another civil airports, after which again without any verification of identification documents, got on the civil plane with Azerbaijani banner and transferred to Azerbaijan by civil airport. There, they were met by servicemen in the uniform of the Turkish army, as well as the soldiers of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, and again without verifying the identities of the arrivals, they were transported by buses to a military unit, where there were servicemen of both the Azerbaijani and Turkish Armed Forces. There, they were met by soldiers in the uniforms of the Turkish army, as well as of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces, and again without verifying the identities of the arrived people, they were transported by their buses to a military unit, where there were again servicemen of both the Azerbaijani and Turkish Armed Forces. In the mentioned military unit, they were given necklaces with numbers, provided with light and dark blue uniforms and weapons, including knives. Three days later, the mercenaries were transferred to another location.
According to the data received, the leader of this group of mercenaries was a person named Sheikh Ibrahim, under the leadership of the latter they were transferred to another military unit, where located another 500 Syrian Arabs who came to fight in exchange for money, as well as Turkish and Azerbaijani soldiers. In the military unit, they were divided into 10 groups, the composition and number of which was determined by Abu Hamshan, who is the main leader of the mentioned military unit and mercenaries transferred from Syria to Azerbaijan.
The latter, informing that they would fight against the Armenians, instructed not to spare life of Armenians in case of an attack, to "slaughter" and kill all of them. They received such instructions from the Turkish and Azerbaijani servicemen located in the military unit. According to Youssef El Abed Al Haji, they were promised $ 100 for each beheaded Armenian.
Early in the morning on the seventh day of their stay in the military unit, at 4 o'clock, they moved to the Artsakh-Azerbaijani line of contact, where they were ordered by Sheikh Ibrahim to attack a nearby Armenian village, capture it and behead all civilians and soldiers. During the attack, however, they came under fire of the Armenian Armed Forces, leaving 15 dead they fled. During the hostilities, the mentioned person was wounded, remained in that state for three days, until he was captured by the servicemen of the Armenian Armed Forces.
The above-mentioned facts, combined with other evidence, reaffirm the existence of clearly functioning criminal schemes for participation of mercenaries in the hostilities of the Azerbaijani Armed Forces unleashed against the Republic of Artsakh in exchange for financial compensation, as well as their involvement in the commitment of crimes on the grounds of national hatred and the mass recruitment of mercenaries from different settlements of Syria by Turkey and transferring them with the help of the latter to Azerbaijan with a view to commit terrorist acts.
