Central Electoral Commission has granted the motions on Candidate of Deputy arrested for giving bribe

In the result of operative measures undertaken by the RA National Security Service, information was received that a Candidate of Deputy participating to the elections of the RA National Assembly on June 20, 2021, reaching prior agreement with a group of citizens of Vayots Dzor Region, during the period from June 4-14, 2021 have offered, promised and handed 28 voters from 20000 to 40000 AMD bribe directly and through intermediaries to vote for an alliance participating in the election.

 

On this ground a criminal case was initiated at the Investigation Department of the RA National Security Service under Article 154.2, Part 1, Part 4, Points 1 and 2 of the RA Criminal Code. According to the preliminary investigation continued at the RA Special Investigation Service 3 people were arrested, one of them was a Candidate of Deputy from the mentioned alliance.

 

Taking into account the above-mentioned, according to the order, the prosecutor administering procedural supervision, has submitted motions to the Central Electoral Commission of the RA to give its agreement for criminal prosecution and detention.

 

In the result of the hearing held today the RA Central Electoral Commission has granted both motions by the prosecutor on the mentioned person.

 

The lawfulness to arrest the person had previously been challenged in the court, which rejected the appeal on June 20, confirming the lawfulness of arresting.

 

The prosecutor administering procedural supervision has sent the decisions of RA Central Electoral Commission to the body conducting the proceedings with the instruction to charge the latter and administer other necessary judicial actions.

 

Measures are undertaken under proper prosecutorial supervision to identify the full range of people involved in criminal electoral bribery scheme and to give a criminal and legal assessment to their actions.
