During the preliminary investigation of the criminal case initiated under Part 2 of Art. 34-154.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia on June 10 of this year, in the Prosecutor's Office of the Armavir region and being investigated by the Anti-Corruption Committee of the Republic of Armenia, it was substantiated that the former mayor of the city of Armavir, a resident of the said city Khlgatyan R., by prior agreement with a resident of the village of Janfida, Armavir region of the Republic of Armenia Petrosyan G. for the purpose of voting for the “I have the Honor” bloc, distributed an electoral bribe to at least 147 voters.

 

For the commission of these criminal acts Khlgatyan R. and Petrosyan G. were charged under paragraph 1 and paragraph 2 of part 4 of Art. 34-154.2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. During the preliminary investigation, the defendants accepted the charges brought against them.

By the decision dated June 13, 2021 of the court of general jurisdiction in relation to them, detention was chosen as a measure of restraint, which was later changed to bail.

 

On November 16, 2021 the criminal case with the indictment was sent to the court of general jurisdiction of the first instance of the Armavir region.

 

As a result of the trial, the court made a guilty verdict on December 23, 2021, by which Khlghatyan R. and Petrosyan G. were found guilty of the acts incriminated to them, they were sentenced to imprisonment for a term of 4 years. In accordance with Art. 70 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, the punishment was not conditionally applied, and a probationary period of 5 years was established.

 

As part of the proceedings, the electoral bribe in the amount of 9.000.000 drams was confiscated in favor of the Republic of Armenia.
