Anna Vardpetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, participated in the “Opportunities and obstacles: the place and role of women in Armenia” conference on the occasion of International Women's Day.
Anna Vardapetyan mentioned in her speech,
“Dear Mrs. Hakobyan,
Dear partners,
Dear attendees,
I would like to congratulate all women and girls on the occasion of International Women’s Day.
Mrs. Hakobyan, I would like to thank you for the initiation of this event and for giving me an opportunity to deliver a speech.
Who is my ideal person? A smart woman. Why? A smart women is free, thus courageous, thus responsible and is capable of love and devotion more than anyone else—loving her country and devoting herself to her profession.
My ideal of a smart woman is particularly a women, who light the first light on the road of our education —our teacher.
When does a woman become smart? Being smart is a choice, not a gift. Choice of priorities, books, music, art, scope of communication and many other factors, which shape us as an individual.
I made my choice when I was 14, when it dawned on me that I am not free. I am not free from all the stereotypes, which expected me as I grew older.
“Freedom is first of all a responsibility for your actions and their consequences”, this was my father’s clear response to my questions about freedom. One thing became really clear for me—knowledge opens the door of the road to freedom, as responsibility requires conscious behavior. This was a decision, which was made at that time and has never changed.
I live and learn every day and my dream is to awaken this awareness and confidence in as many girls and women as possible.
My ideal person is the smart and free woman, who has a sense of responsibility. And if I ever have a daughter I will teach her one thing: you are not obliged to be beautiful, charming and sweet, but you must be smart. Never be afraid to be smart”.
During the discussions Anahit Manasyan, Srbuhi Galyan, Deputies of Prosecutor General of the RA as well as Lilit Grigoryan, Prosecutor of Yerevan city addressed certain questions, calling upon girls and women, with their own example, to learn constantly, set great objectives and believe in themselves.
