April 21, 2023
The increase in violent crimes against human in the society is straight line relative to the increase in aggression level. This was announced today by Anna Vardapetyan, Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia while presenting the report on the activities of the Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Armenia in 2022 to the Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia, referring to the research of the Austrian scientist Konrad Lorenz.
According to Anna Vardapetyan aggression stems from hate speech and its extreme form is committal of violent crime by human against human.
“Years ago I developed and taught a course called “Key problems of Addictive Behavior”. I started dealing with issues of deviant behavior (a set of behavior models that contradict social norms and rules). Aggression is one of the most prominent manifestations of deviant behavior that is not typical of animals. This is characteristic of humans, and yes, violent crimes against humans are acts of aggression”,- mentioned Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia, considering the cases of domestic violence, crimes with fatal accidents committed on the ground of jealousy as a concern.
The Prosecutor General proposed to try to find solutions within the framework of the parliamentary mandate to reduce hate speech and aggression in the behavior of members of society. “If we don't reduce it at the conversational level, unfortunately it will continue to grow in everyday behavior, becoming a crime. As a citizen of the Republic of Armenia, I would also suggest to think about the speech and vocabulary that is heard from the number first political tribune, as it becomes a model of behavior for our citizens in the future”,-Anna Vardapetyan stated.
Addressing the question about the increase in the turnover of narcotic drugs, the Prosecutor General of the Republic of Armenia again linked it to aggression. “Aggression gives rise to man's desire for escaping. When a person can no longer bear the aggression that surrounds him every second, he subconsciously begins to look for a "safe" place. Alcohol, narcotic drugs, gambling and online games become the "safe" place. And, if he doesn't find that "safe" place in real life, he looks for it and finds it in the virtual world and various types of psychedelic, psychotropic substances”, - Anna Vardapetyan clarified.
Touching upon the perverse phenomenon of giving and taking a bribe, Prosecutor General emphasized: “There is a Biblical truth: the bribe taker becomes the “slave” of the bribe giver. We should not encourage slavery, it should be condemnable."
