The Prosecutor's Office of Gegharkunik region summed up the overall indicators of crime in the region for 2020, the results of the activities of the regional structures of law enforcement agencies and the prosecutor's office of the region.

 

It was stated that for 2020 in Gegharkunik region decrease of crime by 2.9% was registered (in 2019 - 1066, and in 2020 - 1035 cases). This is due to the decrease in the number of grave crimes by 21.6%. At the same time, the number of grave crimes was increased by 3 cases.

 

Crimes against property were decreased by 57 or 15% (380 cases in 2019 and 323 cases in 2020). It is noteworthy that in 2020, burglaries of apartments were decreased by 37.8%, while the detection rate of this type of crime was improved significantly, amounting to 40.3% compared with 13.8% in 2019.

 

On the territory of the region, cases of illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition were significantly increased - by 25 or 35.7%. In 2020, 95 such cases were registered, and in 2019 - 70. The main factor that contributed to the increase in this type of crime was the illegal transportation of large quantities of weapons and ammunition from Artsakh to Armenia during the Artsakh war. However, the fact that only 4 of the 96 cases were not detected (detection - 95.8%, and in 2019 - 90.4%) indicates the intensification of works to identify cases of illegal trafficking of firearms and ammunition in the region.

 

As a result of violations of traffic rules, cases of damage to health were decreased by 7.1%, including the number of fatalities was decreased by 3.7% (in 2019 - 27, and in 2020 - 26).

 

Positive results were registered in the region, especially in the works of detecting certain types of crimes.

 

In particular, for especially grave crimes, the detection rate was 53.8% against 37.5% in 2019, while the detection rate for crimes related to firearms was 70% (57.1% in 2019).

 

To eliminate the causes and conditions contributing to various crimes in 2020, 16 petitions and messages were sent to the competent authorities by the prosecutors of the prosecutor's office of the region, which, in comparison with 2019 is five times more.

 

During the year, 7 studies were summarized aimed at protecting state interests (1 - in 2019), which include the processes of providing land plots by community heads in violation of requirements of legislation.As a result, 18 criminal cases were initiated on grounds of failure to take measures to prevent theft, abuse of powers, forgery and arbitrary seizure of state or public land.

 

From the damage caused in the amount of 62.787.691 AMD within the frameowrk of the mentioned cases, voluntarily was recovered30.285.157 AMD.

 

By the cases of corruption crimes identified in 2020 in the territory of the region 71 criminal cases were initiated. They relate to criminal abuses in the fields of education, local self-government, social welfare services, health care and NGOs.
